NOTICE OF RACE

 

1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY & VENUE

  • The 1720 Southern Championships 2023 will be organised by Monkstown Bay Sailing Club in conjunction with the 1720 Sportsboat Class Association and will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of May. The event will be held in Cork Harbour and its surrounding waters

2. RACING RULES

  • The Championships will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the current 1720 Sportsboat Class Rules (1720SCR C.1.4), the Sailing Instructions (SIs) and any amendments thereto. In the case of any conflict between the NoR and the SIs, the SIs will prevail.
  • Boats may be required to carry event sponsor advertising.
  • Where there is a conflict with the Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail except that neither shall change nor alter a class rule.

3. PERSONAL BUOYANCY

  • All competitors shall conform to 1720 Sports Boat Class rules and the SIs regarding the use of lifejackets or adequate personal buoyancy.

4. SUPPORT BOATS

  • Restrictions will be placed on the movements of such boats in and around the race area from the warning signals to the finish of the race.

5. ELIGIBILITY

  • Only boats for which the 2023 Class Fee has been paid shall be eligible to compete.
  • The maximum Crew Weight Limit (1720SCR C.1.4) shall be enforced without exception.

6. INSURANCE

  • It is the duty of each boat owner to have their boat adequately insured against any risk, including civil responsibility to third parties and to ensure that such insurance remains valid for
  • the entirety of the regatta.

7. REGISTRATION & CREW WEIGHING

  • Registration will take place at Monkstown Bay Sailing Club between 16:00 hrs and 21:00 hrs on Friday 26thth & between 08:30 hrs to 09:30 hrs on Saturday 27th.
  • Crew weighing will take place during the same periods as registration and will be carried out to complete crews at one time.

8. RACE PROGRAMME

  • Saturday 27th – Schedule up to 4 races – warning signal 10:55 hrs
  • Sunday 28th – Remaining races to complete the series – warning signal 10:55 hrs
  • No race will be started after 15:00 hrs Sunday 28th May, except following postponements, general recalls, and abandonments of a race where the warning signal was made before 15:00 hrs.

9. RACE AREA

  • The race area will be the waters of Cuskinny bank in Eastern Cork Harbour. .

10. SOCIAL PROGRAMME

  • Friday 26th – BBQ available 18:30 hrs – 19:30 hrs at MBSC clubhouse (Not included in Entry)
  • Saturday 27th – Meal from 18:00 hrs – 19:00 hrs at MBSC clubhouse (Included in Entry)
  • Sunday 28th – Prizegiving at 16:45 hrs at MBSC clubhouse

11. FEES

  • Entries shall be made online at https://mbsc.ie
  • The Entry Fee is €180 (50% discount for a club sponsored U25 team)
  • Late early entry fee is €230, from 31st April 2023.
  • Crane fee for lifts (in and out) is €60.

12. BERTHING & CRANAGE

  • Boats will be launched on Friday 26th at Ringaskiddy Deepwater berth. This will be available for a short period on Friday. There will also be availability on Saturday morning by special arrangement only.  A separate charge for lift in and out will be payable and will be confirmed closer to the event along with lift in times.  Lift out will be after racing on Sunday at Ringaskiddy Deepwater berth. Storage of trailers will be at a secure location in Ringaskiddy. Access will be limited during event.
  • Note – If further storage of boats is required between Southerns and Sovereigns week an arrangement can be made with event organisers

13. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Sailing instructions will be available at Registration or mbsc.ie in the lead up to the event.

14. UNDERTAKING BY BOAT OWNER

  • Boats may be scrutinised at any time during the event. The boat owner or his approved. Representative will be required to sign a form undertaking to carry safety equipment as listed in the class constitution.

15. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

  • Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk.
  • See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material
  • damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.

16. SCORING AND PRIZES

  • Scoring will be based on RRS Appendix A using the Low Point Scoring System. 6 Championship races are scheduled of which 3 shall be completed to constitute a series. If fewer than 4 races are completed no discard will be permitted.
  • Prizes will be awarded for overall positions 1 to 3 inclusive along first U25 club boat.
  • Only members of the class will receive a result.

17. MEDIA WAIVER

  • Competitors give their consent to Monkstown Bay SC, its sponsors and the organising authority to use their name, comments, photographs and likeness in order to promote the Regatta.

18. ADVERTISING

  • Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the Organising Authority.
